“Like so many in our community, I’m grieving the killing of George Floyd. I share in the outrage over his senseless loss – and the losses of too many others before him – while acknowledging I’ll never know what it’s like to walk in the shoes of our black friends, neighbors and colleagues.
“Perhaps like many others, I’m also looking inward and asking myself what we need to do to effect real change. Uncomfortable as this truth is, the ugliness of racism continues to plague our country, and too many of our own students, faculty and staff know its pain. I do not pretend to have all the answers. But I have great hope for a better tomorrow, if we are willing to truly listen, learn and work together toward change. The University of ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø has a unique opportunity and responsibility to be part of the solution. I join Chancellors Green, Gold and Kristensen in pledging that our campuses will be places where all are welcome, where difficult conversations are encouraged, and where we will follow our words with meaningful actions.
“Access and inclusion, after all, are the fundamental values on which our University was built. We will work every day to make certain that those values ring true for all.â€
